This can be a challenge. No one wants to turn away interested students, but it can certainly put you as an organizer for your school in an awkward position. Here are some suggestions, but the most important are probably the first two!
1. Contact your principal or administrator. Let them know of the great interest in the program and get their support on your plan of action to handle the situation as best as possible.
2. Contact us! We'll reach out to our contacts to see what help we may be able to provide.
Remember to reach out for help! Here are some other things you can try...
3. Have an "interest meeting" with the kids where you describe the science portion of the project. Some kids just like the idea of coming to play with legos after school. This is only a part of what JFLL is and it is only fair that they know that. Some may choose not to continue.
4. Gather or contact the parents of the kids to try to get their support. If you can convince another parent to help run a team or two that may allow you to proceed.
5. If needed set a limit to the total # of students you will take. Decide on a fair way to fill your quota with your principal or administrator's support. Communicate your decision and logic to parents of kids you don't take. Make it clear that this is the first year, and if this program is successful you will build on that success and include their child in future years.
